A treasure

This book is a treasure in itself. Coin expert Bowers describes coin hoards, sunken treasures, telling the stories in his own interesting way. You don't have to be a coin collector to enjoy this book. Who wouldn't love to find a hidden treasure? My favorite section covers hoards to be found, state-by-state. Great illustrations, thorough, engaging. This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone interested in coins, hidden treasures, sunken ships, or anyone who wants a fun and interesting read.

How does Q. David Bowers do it? He's the most prolific numismatic writer, perhaps ever, and the quality is exceptional - always! Lost and Found is no exception and it provides so much information to get the reader's mind wandering. What treasures remain to be uncovered?

Perhaps what's most interesting is the analysis of how hoards and discoveries can impact a coin's value. What happens when a once rare coin is joined by a thousand new examples?

The Forward by Bob Evans - of the SS Central America discovery - is particularly useful and sets the reader to enter a different realm of treasure and discovery, a world of Treasure Island, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves or the Hardy Boys. Who wouldn't want to find a treasure in his or her backyard?

Fantastic book for history buffs and coin collectors alike

Great book for coin collectors and history lovers. I've been reading Mr. Bowers' books since the 1970s. While his interests are varied, he excels in his ability to clearly and concisely present that knowledge to collectors whether the collector is a newbie or seasoned professional. With Lost and Found Coin Hoards and Treasures, I found the history of the famous hoards and lesser-known collections to be both educational and entertaining. The "Q" in Mr. Bowers' name should stand for "Quality" because that's what he delivers in each and every book he has written. As always, buy the book before buying the coin. Mr. Bowers' books offer a good foundation for that knowledge before you buy coins.

I received this book as a Christmas gift after having dined in one of the restaurants. I used to cook professionally and my friends thought I would enjoy this book. What a waste of $60. The recipes are extremely complicated using a great deal of unavailable ingredients, not portioned out correctly, one called for almost a gallon of ingredients to make a sorbet for 4 people, others called for other recipes whick were not provided and some of the photos had garnishes that were not listed as an ingredient. It looks like the authors took the recipes from the professional kitchens without testing or adjusting for non-professional use and just stuck it into the book. It did not do justice to the chefs or the food. The pictures are beautiful but overall I found the book poorly written and pretentious. Probably one of my least favorite cookbooks ever!

Inspirational and Educational,

I bought a copy of this book for myself and found it to be a grand and beautiful tour of some of the favorite creations of the great chefs. I have eaten at several of the restaurants. The book allowed me to relive the experiences while relaxing at home. The title, 85 Inspirational Chefs, reflects the focus accurately. It's about the creativity and variety among the chefs. It is not "85 Great Recipes for you to Create at Home." Although the recipes are included, the primary use of the book is not to take it home and attempt to duplicate these extremely varied and often complex recipes with a great variety of ingredients that are not all widely available. It's an artistic and educational experience meant to provide insight into the genius of these chefs. The photographs are beautiful! It is not meant to compete with The Joy of Cooking or any of the many books written by a single chef. I purchased additional copies for some of my friends.

This is a beautiful cookbook. I'm not sure how many of the recipes we will make. It is definitely useful as a "travel guide" to the best restaurants/chefs.

Loved this book...

.. so much that I wrote Harlequin to ask if they were going to release it in digital format. I bought a second-hand copy of this more than a year ago now and have re-read it a number of times. Gave it 5 stars because it's simply Penny Jordan at her best. My most favorite of the many Harlequin novels she penned that I've devoured. Preordered this digital format and I couldn't be happier to have it in my Kindle library. If you happen to read this book it's only either of two things, you'll like it or love it.

Loved it. A romantic and fun Penny Jordan I will read many times over.

I only liked this book when I first read it years before. My tastes must have evolved because, oh my, it was "lurv" at second read, and third and fourth.

Some of my favorite Penny Jordan romances involve a plot where the hero has been in love with the heroine for years. Simon kept his secret from Jenna because he thought she hated him: he even tried to kiss her once at her 18th birthday party but was rejected! Meanwhile, all the little clues that revealed Simon's real feelings for Jenna flew over her head. This was because Jenna believed he would always see her in an unromantic light--as his kid sister's friend--and thus she couldn't see that her sexy, teenage crush had fallen for her years ago. Sigh.

As a result, the journey to their happily ever after was filled with angst. Simon had it all except the woman he loved so much. His longing for Jenna--and eventually hers for him--felt so tangible that I could not wait for their happy ending. (And although besotted with Jenna, Simon did date other women in the past because he thought she was out of reach. It didn't bother me as they weren't a couple yet but this might bother some.) Simon also possessed one of the best sense of humors among Jordan's heroes that I can remember, teasing Jenna constantly. I loved their banter and the resulting fireworks.

I love this book!
