About the Author
Ryan McDonald was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He has worked with computers and publishing for years. He attended Georgia Southern University and graduated with a Printing Management degree. After finally getting sick of the corporate 8-5 life, he packed his bags and moved overseas.

When he's not at a computer, he enjoys playing frisbee golf, traveling, snowboarding, and studying Japanese (obviously). He is currently living in Japan teaching English in High School.

Overall a good book

A previous reviewer commented on just a few examples. It's true, not all examples are great, some are vague or really reaching. But overall the memory tricks are good. Some of my favorites are #213 Manzoku suru - to be satisfied (trigger: any Manz Ok). #101 Suu - to suck in, inhale (trigger: suuuck in the smoke). #64 Miru - to see (trigger: see yourself in the Mirror). My favorite is #159 Handan suru - to judge (trigger: the judge will hand down a verdict).

Yea they are a stretch, but the key is to really imagine it as you say it over and over. I can't forget Suu, Manzoku, and Handan because they are so simple and creative. I can see a judge handing down a verdict and I think of Han dan.

Some people don't think like this and those types of people probably won't enjoy the book. I like art and creative things and these tricks are, for the most part, really easy to remember.

verbs and adjectives learned at the speed of light!

I never write reviews, but i think i should on this one. i love this book! i was looking for a way to learn a lot of verbs and adjectives quickly and this book is perfect for that. you still need to learn the conjugations on your own, but this will save you a lot of time because you will recall them easily and they will stick with you because of the odd memory mnemonics given. it's a thousand times better than rote memorization alone. definately a book to have in your japanese learning collection. I am recommending it to all my friends who want to learn japanese. I have been studying japanese for 3 yrs and will be moving there this year and it has helped me a great deal, so i recommend it highly in helping intermediate, advanced and it will give the beginning student a running start. Ganbatte!

Waste of Money

There are very few useful mnemonics. A lot of them are such a stretch that they don't even make sense. Much better off making up your own.
Also there is no Kanji, and no Kana even, which makes it incredibly difficult to read - all words are in romaji.

Peter H. ABRAHAMS , MB BS, FRCS (Ed), FRCR

We have few authors as dynamic and entrepreneurial as Peter Abrahams. He combines a part-time Family Practitioner job, in a busy North London GP practice, with academic positions at Girton College and Kigezi School in Cambridge, in addition to numerous publishing activities (ranging from Editorial Board of Clinical Anatomy to Consultant on Inside the Human Body). He has been involved in the publication of numerous Mosby anatomy titles, in print and non-print formats, and took over the McMinn atlas in its last, fourth edition. He is an efficient, business-like author with a great delivery record.

Sandy C. MARKS Jr. BS, DDS, PhD

Sandy is a graduate with highest honours fromWashington and Lee University (B.S.1960, the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (D.D.S. 1964) and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Ph.D. in Anatomy 1968). He did postdoctoral training at the National Naval Medical Center and the National Institute of Dental Research before joining the Department of Anatomy at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1970, where he is presently Professor of Cell Biology, Radiology and Surgery. He has taught anatomy, cell biology, neuroanatomy and embryology since 1965 and has been the North American Editor of the journal Clinical Anatomysince 1991. He is a founding member and former President of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists and has been an External Assessor and External Examiner in Anatomy for medical and dental students at the National University of Singapore and at the University of Malaya. He was brought on as U.S. co-author of the 4th edition of McMinn's Color Atlas of Human Anatomy, in a bid to improve the book's marketability in North America.

Ralph Hutchings

Ralph is now a freelance photographer, sculptor and restorer of vintage cars! Earlier in his career he was photographer at the Royal College of Surgeons, under the management of Bob McMinn. He owns the copyright to all images taken at the RCS at that time, and has in his possession copies of most of the photographs used in all the Mosby(-Wolfe) anatomy atlases published down the years…

During an interview with the creators of Hellraiser they said that they used this book for texture and color resources for their effects. I can see why. Some really interesting visuals of layers within the body in this book and lots of nice browns and pinks. A great resource

About the Author
Oscar Cullmann (1902-1999) taught Greek, New Testament, and Early Christianity at the University of Strausbourg, the University of Basel, and the Sarbonne in Paris. He is best known for his many books and prolific speaking about Christianity and history. Upon his death at age ninety-six, the World Council of Churches honored him for his extensive ecumenical work.

The Revd Dr. John Bowden, is the former Editor and Managing Director of SCM Press. He is the author of several books and articles, and has translated numerous religious books from German, French, and Dutch. .

Prayer: Encounter with God

This book, Prayer in the New Testament, examines the practice and doctrine of prayer in the New Testament. The book was translated from it's German original by John Bowden. Cullmann starts by raising several modern objections to prayer, and refutes these objections using examples from the Synoptic Gospels and John, Paul's writings, and briefly, with the rest of the New Testament. In some places I felt the grammar, possibly the translation, was confusing. Cullmann interchanges the meaning of "hearing" prayer, using it to mean both God's listening to our petition, and God's answer to the petition. This leads to several confusing statements such as "the apostle finds that his prayer is heard in not being heard" (page 136). Furthermore, why did the translator assume the word "Leitmotif" is so well know in English that it needed no translation? Why are there often breaks in the paragraph structure; an extra space followed by an indented paragraph, which does not seem to differ from the text preceding and following (i.e., they do not always seem to be farther explanations or footnotes)? I like Cullmann's point on being persistent in prayer. He sees it as both a demand and a means of help in overcoming the temptation to neglect prayer. Regular prayer makes our uniting with God easier, allowing us to remain in constant contact with God. Cullmann shows how New Testament prayer emphasizes the nearness of God. This book made me contemplate such things as experiencing God's presence in prayer, the physical residence of God, his omnipresence, being remote yet near, Jesus' transcendence, what it means to be close yet transcendent. I like Cullmann's thoughts on; "God in us, Christ in us." Cullmann repeatedly emphasized the aim of prayer is a loving encounter with God. Our encounter with the omnipotent God can only succeed with the divine help of the Holy Spirit. He showed how we must approach God in prayer with childlike trust, to be in conversation with God as a loving partner. We need to be ready to submit to God's will, and accept the unanswered prayer ("unheard prayer") as possibly a sign of God's love and part of his divine plan. I recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their prayer experience.

Short Introduction of Prayer in NT

Cullmann's book (translated from the French) provides a complete study of the doctrine of prayer in the New Testament (prayer in the Synoptics, John, Paul; prayer and human weakness, prayer and the question of evil, how to pray, the Our Father and doubts about prayer). Though some hard questions about prayers were left unanswered, I find this book a good start to better understand how we may pray more effectively.

This book is unashamedly chemical, written by and for chemists. It is multi-authored, but all the contributors are currently or were previously employed by the same company, Quest International, giving a cohesive approach to the content. The editor, Charles Sell, welds the various chapters together to give a good insight into the perfume industry.�

After an introduction on the history of perfumes and fragrances and on perfumery materials from natural plant sources, the longest chapter of the book covers the chemical synthesis of perfume ingredients, especially terpenoid ones. The industrial syntheses developed by the various companies in the fragrance business are well described in chemical and economic terms and accompanied by reaction sequences.�

The rest of the book shows how these basic ingredients produced by the chemist are used to develop fragrance products through formulation, and outlines all the other issues that the industry has to consider such as fragrance perception, fragrance performance, stability testing, biodegradability, safety and toxicology.�

A final section deals with the future search for new fragrance ingredients which the authors claim will involve chemists using their synthetic skills, inspired by nature, and aided by computers.�

A sniff page is included, the scent of which lasts long enough for the reader to finish the book in a cloud of lavender.�

Very informative, excellent text

I also own Scent and Chemistry, this book is a lot easier to read. It's more well written and easier to comprehend, there are no annotations/diagram numbers breaking up every sentence. The diagrams are much fewer in number than the aforementioned text book but no less informative. If you are a student of perfumery this book is invaluable, I highly recommend it!

Very good book, covered many topics and subjects , to understand this book well, you should have a chemistry background , I think the benefite from this book is gaining wide knowledge not technics ,,, the structure activity relationship chapter is one of the advanced subject about finding new fragrances, specially about odor behavior and physical chemistry of the fragrances,,,

This book has been re-typed from an original version of "The True History of the Australian Bushrangers by Jack Bradshaw. It is offered with a front cover scanned from the original. It's date is debatable with some conflicting entries (in-text letters etc) - perhaps 1911 to 1925, and some of the book seems 'patched' together, making it appear to have been written at different times. However it contains a lot of local detail, and black and white photos and drawings. Bradshaw covers the background and the adventures of outlaws such as Ben Hall, Darkie Gardiner, Morgan, The Clarke Brothers, Peisley, Johnny Dunn, Ned Kelly and others. Bradshaw uses extremely colourful language and seemingly gets very cross with other writers of the time such as Boldrewood and Ambrose Pratt, accusing them of falsifying events, dates etc. However, researchers say that some of Bradshaw's details are in question also!
I feel that to read all the available literature of the time adds interest and more dimensions to outlaw history and I hope to be producing more books written 1850 - 1930 which are threatened by extinction because of their rarity, age and condition.

This book is A5 and sold as a new book, around 200 pages.

JACK BRADSHAW

This enigmatic man was born in Dublin C1846 and arrived in Melbourne in 1860. Although he started working as a shearer, working on farms and as a station hand, he turned to a life of crime. His main act was holding up the Quirindi Bank in 1880 together with "Lovely Riley" (so called because of Riley's ugliness). They got away with �2000 and some time after Riley's arrest, Bradshaw was arrested and did 8 years of his 12 year sentence. Around 1888 he was again arrested for stealing mail from mailbags and this time was jailed for around 12 years. He first wrote "The Last of the Bushrangers," and later travelled giving lectures on bushranging and life in prison around Victoria and New South Wales.
Jack was not an educated man, his rendering is the colourful jargon and sayings of that time and place.
He was still selling this book, "The True History of the Australian Bushrangers" door to door when he was 85 years of age.

a good book from a great Australian liar

Jack Bradshaw was a petty criminal and thief and a failed bank robber among other things. He was a braggart and a skite and a total fabricator. He no doubt did speak to some family of bushrangers after the fact or took details of anecdotal evidence for his stories. He claims to have known every one of the bushrangers, a total impossibility as they were spread over time and thousands of miles.
Bradshaw disputes facts that are true, for example that the bushranger Captain Moonlight ever existed. He disparages Frank Gardiner who was the most successful of the genre in Australia and certainly deserves a better reputation than Bradshaw gives him. He sets out facts that never happened and can be proven as lies and denies some that can be proven to have happened.
He spends a lot of time disparaging Rolfe Brolderwood's book "Robbery Under arms" which is a work of historical fiction. It is clear Bradshaw cannot distinguish between a work that states it is fiction and his own which denies what it is, fiction.
If you want the history of bushranging in Australia look for Charles White "History of Australian Bushranging" written in 1890, Bill Wannan, a renowned historian in Australia or Bill Cody "Wild colonial Boy" which is generally factually true with some poetic licence thrown in.
If you want to see what a semi literate braggart and liar and failed criminal can produce then Bradshaw is the man for you. Poorly written and badly edited and full of waffle, like the man himself.

Take with a grain of salt.

The author claims to have met most of the bushrangers he writes about and to have been in gaol with some of them. The style is conversational and unpolished. I found his descriptions of people and events quite fascinating, but then I have a bushranger ancestor and the book may be just for geneaologist nuts. As has been pointed out I would a bit wary of his 'facts'.
